About Serbian Language

The South Slavic group of the Slavic branch of the Indo-European language family includes Serbian (cpcки jeик, srpski jezik). Serbo-Croatian, which was Yugoslavia's official language until it was partitioned into Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian, was described as the shared tongue of Serbs, Croats, Bosniaks, and Montenegrins. Despite the word "Serbo-Croatian" being out of usage, there is still debate surrounding it because of its historical, cultural, and political overtones as well as the fact that there is no consensus regarding what is meant by the term "language." It is sufficient to remark that these languages are more often than not the result of political than linguistic choices.

In Serbia, there are 6.6 million Servian speakers, according to the 2002 census (Ethnologue). Additionally, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Greece, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, and the United States all speak Serbian. According to Ethnologue, there are 8.6 million native Serbian speakers worldwide. The official language of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is standard Serbian, which uses the Shtokavian pronunciation. The government, all educational levels, the media, and all facets of social, cultural, and private life all use it.
