About Russian Language

Russian is the official language of Russia. The east-Slavic languages served as the foundation for the Russian language, which developed as a result of the need to create a common dialect that all tribes could comprehend. Such a dialect was based on the Polanians' dialect, which is spoken by those who live in Kiev, the capital. The literary language of Old Russian was built on this dialect. Only after Christianity was adopted in Russia did the proper writing system emerge. The Cyrillic alphabet was created by the brothers Cyril and Methodius in the ninth century. Greek liturgical texts were translated into Slavonic using that alphabet. Cyrillic has now spread throughout the Slavic realm, and after Rus' baptism, the Eastern Slavic people started using it.

Only in the 18th century was language changed and made simpler. It was given contemporary Russian graphics in 1917–1918. The language underwent its most recent change in the early 1970s. Native languages are spoken in various Russian Federation republics in addition to the national tongue (e.g. in Buryatia, Ingushetia, Kalmykia, North Ossetia, Dagestan, Mordovia). Russians also speak Ukrainian, Belarusian, Kazakh, Kirghiz, Azerbaijani, German, Latvian, Bulgarian, Finnish, Estonian, Armenian, Georgian, and Greek, among other languages. About 100 Indo-European languages were spoken in Russia in the year 2000.
